 Adamah Art Studios Artist-In-Residence Program – 2025/26

Adamah Art Studios is excited to offer a self-directed Artist-in-Residence opportunity for emerging ceramic artists seeking dedicated studio space, professional growth, teaching experience, and community engagement. This residency provides the freedom to explore your personal creative practice while actively contributing to the studio through teaching, maintenance, and community involvement. No prior teaching experience is required—our studio manager will provide mentorship and support to help you develop and lead your own classes. Residency Overview

Term: 7 months (October – April, start and end dates are flexible)

Residency Fee: None 

Studio Work: 10-15 hours a week

What Adamah Provides

Residents will receive the following benefits:

  • 24-hour access to a private studio space
  • Use of studio equipment, firing facilities, and glaze lab

Resident Responsibilities

As part of the residency, artists are expected to:

  • Maintain a professional and collaborative studio presence
  • Work a minimum of 10 hours per week teaching classes or assisting in studio upkeep
  • Contribute to kiln maintenance, clay and glaze mixing, and general studio cleaning
  • Teach workshops or classes as agreed upon with the Studio
  • Create artwork and actively engage with the local artistic community
  • Organize and present a solo exhibition showcasing work created during the residency

Studio Space

  • The artist-in-residence has their own private studio located in the Adamah Ceramic Studio. A large shared studio provides additional working space which invites interaction. Each resident is responsible for their own personal studio equipment, tools, and materials. 
  • A worktable, wheel, and shelves are provided in each private studio.
  • Residents are also allowed access to the kiln room and glaze lab.

Housing

  • The artist-in-residence has their own studio apartment located on the second floor of the Adamah Retreat Center, just a few feet from the Ceramics Studio. 
  • The apartment is fully furnished with a fully equipped kitchen. Please contact the Adamah Director with any specific questions.
  • Utilities are included in the residency program.

Financial Considerations

  • There is no stipend associated with this residency
  • Residents are responsible for personal expenses, including transportation, food, and materials beyond what is provided at cost

Insurance & Liability

  • Adamah Art Studios does not provide insurance for the artist’s personal property, materials, or artwork
  • Residents are encouraged to obtain their own insurance for personal belongings and works
  • Adamah Art Studios is not responsible for any damages, injuries, or losses incurred during the residency

    What is the duration of the residency?

    The program runs from October 2025 to April 2026. Official start and end dates are flexible.

    What qualifications are required?

    Applicants should be a dedicated ceramic artist with a strong personal studio practice. Applicants should have a background in ceramics, whether through formal education, apprenticeships, or equivalent hands-on experience. Teaching experience is preferred but not required—artists should be willing to develop and lead classes, with mentorship available. Residents must be self-motivated, community-oriented, and comfortable with studio maintenance tasks, including reclaiming clay, mixing glazes, and firing electric, gas, and wood kilns. Strong organizational skills, adaptability, and a passion for arts education are essential.
