This workshop focuses on the ancient art of Raku, primarily its relationship to tea bowls and ceremonial objects. Raku is a method of firing that is fast, fiery and full of unexpected results. You will have numerous opportunities to experiment with glazes, reduction materials, and post-firing techniques. Additionally, we will make traditional pinched tea bowls during the first days of the workshop and pit fire them on the last day. Throughout the workshop, we will learn about various aspects of wabi-sabi, a philosophical approach to clay that finds beauty in imperfection, impermanence, and natural simplicity.
Students should bring multiple bisque tea bowls ready to raku fire on site. We will send a tutorial with exact requirements before the workshop
